Fire protection of Steel Constructions

Steel – inorganic building material classified as non-flammable (flammability class A1 / A2), but the steel structure loses its bearing properties (deformation) during fire when temperature reaches approximately 450 – 500 ° C. This process takes less than 10 minutes. During Fire resistance tests temperature is increased according standard fire spread curve (ISO), 550°C temperature is reached in just 5 minutes, 850°C – 30 minutes. In 90 minutes – approximately 1000°C. In order to keep best qualities of steel construction, it is necessary to perform quality and reliable protection from fire.

Protection by Intumescent painting

We increase the fire resistance of steel constructions by applying fire protective, intumescent paint. For this purpose, we use water or solvent based intumescent paints FLAME STAL or PROMAPAINT. Depending on the corrosive classes, we recommend to apply additional layer of top coat on already fire protected steel constructions.

Intumescent paint cannot be used for all fire resistance classes. Classes, higher than one hour, usually have to be protected by other means, systems. In such cases, the steel structures should be protected by so called „Constructive measures“. These are Soft type systems (special mineral wool slabs) or Hard type systems (calcium silicate based panels). Steel structures can be protected up to class R240 of fire resistance.

We also perform steel construction corrosion protective painting, old protective coating renovation works.Works are carried out exclusively with certified protective materials / systems.

Protection by installing Calcium-sylicate or Mineral wool boards

We provide works for increasing fire resistance of steel structure by covering their surface with Calcium silicate boards Promatect (hard system) or with special mineral wool panels (soft system). Depending on situation constructions can be provided with 2, 3 or 4 – sided protection.

Our specialists will provide the customer with an ergonomic solution by offering measures in order to fulfill the designed requirements of technical project. Steel structures can be protected from fire up to class R240 of fire resistance. The protective works are performed using tested and certified fire protection materials / systems.

Protection by applying vermiculite based wet-spray

We provide works for increasing fire resistance of steel structure by covering their surface with the cement-vermiculite-based masses CAFCO or FENDOLITE. Depending on situation constructions can be provided with 2, 3 or 4 – sided protection.

Protection by applying bio retardant solutions

We provide works for increasing fire resistance of wooden building constructions by applying ecologic antiseptic bio – retardant solutions on their surface. Our specialists will provide the customer with an ergonomic solution by offering measures in order to fulfill the designed requirements of technical project. Treated wooden structure reaches the highest European flammability class wood: B-s1, d0.

It is very important that the fire retardant should not contain volatile toxic components. In this case ecology comes along with fire safety. Healthy living environment always is the most important. Wooden structures can be protected from fire up to class R60 of fire resistance, while antiseptic bio – retardant solutions. The protective works are performed using tested and certified fire protection materials / systems.

Protection by installing Calcium-sylicate boards

There are cases when flammability class B-s1, d0 (R60) for wood constructions is not enough. Technical project can require flammability classes of A1 or A2. Then a wooden fire resistance modeled additional services are performed using hard (calcium-silicate-based) fire panels.

We provide works for increasing fire resistance of wooden structure by covering their surface with Calcium silicate boards Promatect (hard system). Depending on situation constructions can be provided with 2, 3 or 4 – sided protection. Depending on situation constructions can be provided with 1, 2 or 3 – sided protection.

Fire protection of carbon-fibre stripes

Carbon fiber stripes are mostly designed for reinforcement  of concrete overlays. They are sticked with special thermos-resistant glue which upon thermal effects very quickly comes off in practice. Carbon stripes need less than 1000C temperature to lose adhesives, retaining properties.

Carbon fiber strips must be protected from high temperatures. Our suggested method – protection with calcium silicate base plates „Promatect”. This is one of the solutions in fire safety market even for thin and vulnerable carbon fiber. Total thickness of 80 mm provides fire resistance of EI 180 (depending on the critical temperature of the adhesive). Having a higher critical temperature adhesives require thinner protective plate thickness.

Fire rated partitions

During the construction of warehouses, offices and other modern buildings have replaced easily create spaces that could be reshaped. Often there is a partition of fire-resistance problem. Ordinary gypsum not possess the necessary characteristics, and therefore the documents the fire integrity and insulation. The required degree of fire resistance required to compose lots of thick structures with mineral wool inside. Nowadays every square meter, and each centimeter worth the value of gold .

Fire partition – this is the partition that the fire resistance is determined in accordance with the relevant European standards. Partitions may be different, depending on the destination and the desired decoration. Priešgaisrinės konvejerinių sistemų užsklandos

Until now, the architects knew that conveyor systems crossing fire-resistant structures can not be closed. It seemed unrealistic, difficult to understand. We have to admit that there was no such closer system which could be adjusted to the openings and mechanisms of conveyor systems till 2007 . Architects were designing water curtains instead. Water curtains do not limit the smoke spread, they limit temperature. And the killing element is not temperature – it’s Smoke!

Nowadays conveyer fire closers must be tested according to the standard LST EN 1366-7 „Service installations fire resistance tests. Part7. Conveyor systems and their closures requirements.“
The system is connected to the fire alarm system (GAAS). In case of fire, the system sends a signal to a central control unit, which automatically activates the fire bulkhead. The conveyor line is stopped, and the septum closes the cavity and ensures the bars and floor fire resistance. The partition may close both vertically and horizontally. Closing mechanism is always adapted to the existing situation in the Object.
